Lord’s Prayer

My exploration of Christianity had me wondering what the Lord’s Prayer is telling us. At the end I will give you my translation of the Lord’s Prayer.

We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.   T. S. Eliot

Thoughts for all ages

Mat 18:1  In that hour [or, At that time] the disciples approached Jesus, saying, “So who is greatest in the kingdom of the heavens?”

Mat 18:2  And Jesus having summoned a young child, He set him in the middle of them

Mat 18:3  and said, “Positively, I say to you*, unless you* are turned around [fig., changed inwardly] and become like such young children, by no means shall you* enter into the kingdom of the heavens.

Mat 18:4  “Therefore, whoever will humble himself like this young child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of the heavens.

Mat 19:13  Then little children were brought to Him, that He might lay hands on them and might pray. But the disciples rebuked them.

Mat 19:14  But Jesus said, Allow the little children and do not prevent them to come to Me, for of such is the kingdom of Heaven.

What do children possess in unlimited quantity? – Imagination and energy.

First, imagination is the part of us that plays in images, symbols, myths, and stories. It is the capacity we all have for innovative thinking and creative expression.

Second, the imagination is an inner reality, a boundless kingdom not defined by our senses or reason. We enter through our dreams and through certain exercises while awake. It is this Kingdom of Imagination that is our interconnection to all things; where all information about all things is stored. In this kingdom we are truly one with everything. This is also the source of our basic energy for life. Sometimes we tell the children around us to just use their conscious will to get something done. Not realizing that the imagination is much stronger than the will. If the children are encouraged to use their imagination to create an exciting or fun way to get something done.  It will happen.

Remember a time when someone you really love, whom you don’t see very often, was coming to visit. First of all you are so excited that you can hardly wait for them to arrive. Are they here yet! Then you stay up very late night after night seemingly not getting tired and enjoying yourself immensely. This tremendous surge of energy comes from the Kingdom of Imagination.

This story comes from California. A grandmother was in her front yard working in her garden and her grandson was playing in the back yard.

A small earthquake struck but it was just violent enough to knock the grandmother off her feet. Remembering that her grandson was in the back yard she slowly raised herself off the ground. She moved as fast as she could toward the back yard yelling “Jimmy, Jimmy.” Her grandson hearing the concern ran toward the front yard yelling back “I didn’t do it Grandma, I didn’t do it.”

The grandson didn’t think it was out of the realm of possibility that he could have caused the earthquake. Too bad that he will probably have that educated out of him.

Just think if Jimmy were taught that all things are possible and all things can be solved in the Kingdom of Imagination.

Truth is within ourselves; it takes no rise

From outward things, whate’er you may believe.

There is an inmost center in us all,

Where truth abides in fullness; and around,

Wall upon wall, the gross flesh hems it in,

This perfect, clear perception which is truth.

A baffling and perverting carnal mesh

Binds it, and makes all error: and,

Rather consists in opening out a way

Whence the imprisoned splendor may escape,

Than in effecting an entry for a light

Supposed to be without.

Robert Browning (1812-1889) from Paracelsus

We start with Genesis 1:1 the first two words:

ראשׁית rê’shîyth ray-sheeth’ the first principal thing

אלהים ‘ĕlôhîym el-o-heem’ the Supreme One

Eloheem is a plural masculine noun used with singular masculine verbs. This is contrary to rules of Hebrew grammar.

The plural is used to show majesty, honor, or fullness.

One not as a separate entity; but as Complete Collective Consciousness.

Gen 1:1 Created by the Elohim were the heavens and the earth.

Gen 1:2 Yet the earth became a chaos and vacant, and darkness was on the surface of the submerged chaos. Yet the spirit of the Elohim is vibrating over the surface of the water.

Gen 1:3 And saying is the Elohim, “Become light!” And it is becoming light.

Spirit  רוּח  rûach  roo’-akh  wind, breath, a region of the sky, mind

Light  אור ‘ôr ore illumination; to be or make luminous (be, give, or show light) enlightened, set on fire, shine.

Let enlightenment or illumination become; this is the first action of the Supreme One. This is the same principal that Buddha called enlightenment or illumination.

I see now that all creatures have perfect enlightenment – but they do not know it.  Buddha

Gen 1:26 And saying is the Elohim, “Make will We humanity in Our image, and according to Our likeness, and sway shall they over the fish of the sea, and over the flyer of the heavens, and over the beast, and over all land life, and over every moving animal moving on the land.

Gen 1:27 And creating is the Elohim humanity in His image. In the image of the Elohim He creates it. Male and female He creates them.

Dreams and visions play an integral part in Eloheem passing information to humans. In fact the book of The Revelation is a series of nonsequential dreams and visions. A major portion of the Bible is based on dreams and visions.

Exo 3:13 Now Moses said to the One, Elohim: Behold! When I am coming to the sons of Israel, and I say to them, The Elohim of your fathers sends me to you, then they will say to me, What about His name? What shall I say to them?

Exo 3:14 Then Elohim spoke to Moses: I shall come to be just as I am coming to be. And He said: Thus shall you say to the sons of Israel, I-Shall-Come-to-Be has sent me to you.

היה hâyâh haw-yaw’ to exist; that is, be or become, come to pass

I shall come to be just as I am coming to be  היה hâyâh haw-yaw’ אשׁר ‘ăsher ash-er’  היה hâyâh haw-yaw’ a lot of translations read I AM that I AM.

The Hebrews repeated a word to make it superlative. Like Isa 26:3  You will keep in perfect peace the mind stayed on You, for he trusts in You.  שׁלום shâlôm shaw-lome’ meaning peace is repeated to mean perfect peace.

“I AM Being that is Becoming” is the very essence that the Supreme One placed within us. As we allow enlightenment or illumination to flow from within us to the without we also experience “I AM Being that is Becoming”.

Num 23:19  God is not a man that He should lie, or a son of man that He should repent. Has He said, and shall He not do it? And has He spoken, and shall He not make it good?

Psa 8:4  what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man, that You visit him?

Psa 8:5  For You have made him lack a little just a part of Eloheem; and have crowned him with glory and honor.

Joh 8:28  Then Jesus says to them, “Whenever you folks may lift up high (raise aloft; elevate; or: exalt) the Son of man (Humanity’s Son; the Son of Mankind), then you will come to know by personal experience that I AM, and I from Myself am habitually doing nothing (not one thing), but rather, according as the Father teaches (or: taught) Me, I continue speaking these things.

The Hebrew expression “son of man” is used to contrast the lower essence of humanity with Eloheem.

Jesus was quite clearly not calling himself God, but stating that when you elevate the essence of humanity inside you will experience I AM.

Joh 8:32  “and you will come to know the Truth (Reality) by intimate experience, and the Truth (Reality) will liberate and make (set) you free!”

What is this truth?

We are a physical body with an essence from the Supreme One at the center of our being.

What is the nature of this freedom?

A lot of times we want to experience freedom “from” something. That is not the nature of this freedom.

This is the freedom “to be” whatever the Supreme One places in us.

The Supreme One (Father within), life itself, goodness itself, is a loving presence that is fully capable of demonstrating the good he/she truly anticipates.

You keep your future choice making free by not making choices in the present moment that apply binding or limiting restrictions. Such as “I am not good at math” “I am clumsy”, etc.

Freedom is also about having no secrets. If you hold no secrets in your life you can’t be shamed or blackmailed.

Heavens  οὐρανός  oo-ran-os’  the sky and  heaven from root words meaning to rise and to expand

Jesus had a number of parables about the kingdom of heaven. One was about a loaf rising. Many are about things expanding or increasing.

Luk 17:20  Now having been questioned by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God is coming, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation;

Luk 17:21  neither will they say, ‘Look here!’ or ‘Look there!’ For listen! The kingdom of God is within [or, among] you*.”

Joh 3:6  The [thing] having been born from the flesh is flesh, and the [thing] having been born from the Spirit is spirit.

Joh 3:7  “Stop marveling that I said to you, ‘It is necessary [for] you* to be born from above [or, born again].'”

Again from above, from the first, anew, again, from the beginning (very first), the top. Remember our first word ראשׁית rê’shîyth ray-sheeth’ the first principal thing.

Born Again To bring forth from the first principal thing.

There are two kingdoms within. The ephemeral flesh kingdom of I (self) and the eternal spirit kingdom of we (Supreme One).

Mat 7:14 But the gate to life is very narrow. The road that leads there is so hard to follow that only a few people find it.

A very narrow gate means you have to drop all the clutter of life to enter. This is very hard and takes a lot of practice and few are willing to make the effort.

Mat 18:3  and said, “Positively, I say to you*, unless you* are turned around [fig., changed inwardly] and become like such young children, by no means shall you* enter into the kingdom of the heavens.

By no means a double negative strengthening the denial – not at all, never

You must set aside the kingdom of I by quieting the physical mind to get to the kingdom of we.

We still the physical mind with still or moving meditation; things like Yoga, sustained conscious physical exercise, conscious awareness, conscious breathing, and many more.

Here are two mind pictures:

The kingdom of I is like a lake or pond with a stiff breeze blowing and full of waves. We cannot see the reflection of the Cosmos on the surface while our self-centered thoughts clamor for our attention.

The kingdom of we is like the same lake or pond at a still, calm moment. We have set our self-centered thoughts aside and we can now see the reflection of the Cosmos on the surface and commune with it.

The kingdom of we is where Buddha Nature and the state of flow occur. It is where we experience awe and feel a part of something larger than ourselves. It is also called the inner child where our energy for life comes from.

Joh 14:20 “In that day _you*_ will know that I [am] in My Father(1+1=1), and you* in Me(1+1=1), and I in you*(1+1=1).

In computer logic we have Boolean Algebra in which all truth is resolved in 1. In the kingdom of we all truth is resolved in The One. We are at the very oneness of interconnectedness where we can experience everything.

I am hoping that some possibilities are coming to mind as you think on these things.

Mat 6:1  “Be taking care not to be doing your* charitable giving before the people, in order to be seen by them; but if not [fig., otherwise], you* do not have a reward from your Father, the [One] in the heavens.

Mat 6:2  “So when you are doing charitable giving, you should not sound a trumpet before you like the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, in order that they shall be praised by the people. Positively, I say to you*, they are receiving their reward in full.

Mat 6:3  “But when _you_ do charitable giving, do not let your left hand know what the right hand is doing,

Mat 6:4  in order that your charitable giving shall be in secret, and your Father, the [One] seeing in secret, will Himself reward you in the open.

Mat 6:5  “And when you are praying, you will not be like the hypocrites, because they affectionately love standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the open streets to be praying, in order that they shall be seen by the people. Positively, I say to you*, they have their reward in full.

Mat 6:6  “But when you* are praying, enter into your private room, and having shut your door, pray to your Father, the [One] in secret, and your Father, the [One] seeing in secret, will reward you in the open.

Mat 6:7  “Now when you pray, do not use vain repetitions [or, many meaningless words] like the Gentiles, for they suppose that they will be heard by their many words.

Mat 6:8  “Therefore, you* shall not be like them, for your* Father knows what [things] you* have need of before you ask Him.

Mat 6:9  “Therefore, _you*_, be praying like this: ‘Our Father, the [One] in the heavens, let Your name be regarded as holy.

Mat 6:10  ‘Let Your kingdom come; let Your will be done, as in heaven, [so] also on the earth.

Mat 6:11  ‘Give us today the bread sufficient for the day.

Mat 6:12  ‘And forgive us our debts [fig., sins], in the same way as _we _ also forgive our debtors [fig., the ones having sinned against us].

Mat 6:13  ‘And do not lead us into temptation, _but_ deliver us from evil [or, from the evil [one]]. Because Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory into the ages [fig., forever]! So be it [Gr. amen]!’

Mat 6:14  “For, if you* forgive the people their transgressions, your Father, the [One] in the heavens, will also forgive you,*

Mat 6:15  but if you* do not forgive the people their transgressions, neither will your* Father forgive your* transgressions.

Here is my translation of the Lord’s Prayer.

Supreme One, who we can call Father, is expanding within us. We venerate your authority.

Your kingdom is taking place. Your will within is expanding to the without.

You give us our needful bread.

You forgive our debts as soon as we forgive the debts of others.

Let us not be carried inwardly to adversity, but rescue us from that which is hurtful.

Yours being the rule, abundant force, and honor into perpetuity. So be it!
