Ownership- One of humankind’s biggest mistakes

Ownership- One of humankind’s biggest mistakes

In my opinion there is only one thing any human can even remotely say that they own – their own body; and even that may just be a short term lease.

Gen 2:7-8 The LORD God took a handful of soil and made a man. God breathed life into the man, and the man started breathing. The LORD made a garden in a place called Eden, which was in the east, and he put the man there… Gen 2:15  The LORD God put the man in the Garden of Eden to take care of it and to look after it.

Psa 24:1 The world and all that is in it belong to the LORD; the earth and all who live on it are his.

Maybe we should treasure the earth(along with all who live on it) to take care of it and look after it like it is the LORD’s property.

Psa 46:10 Be still and know that I am God! The Hebrew Be still literally means to slacken; one commentary says to release your white knuckled grip on things.

Mat 6:25 “For this reason I say to you*, stop being anxious [about] your* life, what you* shall eat and what you* shall drink, nor [about] your* body, what you* shall wear. Life is more [than] the nourishment, and the body [more than] the clothing, IS IT NOT?

Luk 12:15 Then He said to them, “Be watching out for and be guarding yourselves against covetous desire [or, greed], because not in the abounding of his possessions is his life [fig., a person’s life does not consist of the abundance of his possessions].”

A lot of times I have heard people say “I want to get ahead.”

You want to get ahead of what or whom? When I ask them this question they look at me like I am crazy!

Words have meaning; they are a picture into our soul.

Ahead  adverb (IN FRONT)

  1. Directly in front:

She only had a few things in her shopping cart, so I told her she could go ahead of me in the checkout line.

2. Ahead also means further along in development or achievement:

Sophie is way ahead of the rest of her class.

So I collect things; when I have a big collection I will be somebody. My collection needs to be bigger than anyone else’s; then I am ahead of them.

I will be directly in front.

Mar 10:44  and whoever of you may will to become first, he shall be servant of all;

Oh no; collecting things doesn’t seem to be the “Christian” life.
