Resistance the most useless action

Resistance the most useless action

“What you resist; persists.” Carl Jung

Psychology Today Jun 15, 2016-

Psychologically speaking, RESISTANCE AND RESOLUTION are at opposite poles. For RESISTANCE has fundamentally to do with not being able or willing, to deal with the negative experiences in your life. And ultimately your happiness depends a lot more on handling—then letting go of—such adversities than it does, self-protectively, denying them, or fighting against them; In addition, so does (unwittingly) holding onto their associated feelings of hurt, sorrow, anxiety, or anger.

Without consciously deciding to, you can even get “attached” to feelings you haven’t resolved. But if you become aware of the exorbitantly high costs of not acknowledging, and working through, these feelings, you’ll realize that heedlessly clinging to them hasn’t at all contributed to your welfare; Quite the opposite.

Long ago, the depth psychologist Carl Jung contended that “WHAT YOU RESIST NOT ONLY PERSISTS, BUT WILL GROW IN SIZE.” And today this viewpoint is generally abbreviated to “WHAT YOU RESIST PERSISTS,” with many kindred paradoxical variants—such as, “YOU ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU RESIST.

“Pain is a relatively objective, physical phenomenon; suffering is our PSYCHOLOGICAL RESISTANCE to what happens. Events may create physical pain, but they do not in themselves create suffering. RESISTANCE creates suffering. STRESS HAPPENS WHEN YOUR MIND RESISTS WHAT IS...The only problem in your life is YOUR MIND’S RESISTANCE to life as it unfolds.” Dan Millman

Mat 5:37-48 But let your* word be, ‘YES, YES’ [or] ‘NO, NO,’ but the [word which is] more [than] these is from the evil [one].  You* heard that it was said: ‘Eye for eye and tooth for tooth,’ [Exod 21:24; Lev 24:20; Deut 19:21] but _I_ say to you* NOT TO RESIST THE EVIL, _but_ whoever will slap you on {your} right cheek, turn to him also the other.  And the one wanting to sue you and to take your tunic, allow to him also the cloak. And whoever will compel you [to go] one mile, be going with him two.  Be giving to the one asking of you, and you should not turn away the one wanting to borrow from you.  You* heard that it was said, ‘You will love your neighbor,’ and you will hate your enemy, [Lev. 19:18]  but _I_ say to you*, be loving your* enemies; be blessing the ones cursing you*; be doing good to the ones hating you*, and be praying on behalf of the ones mistreating you* and persecuting you*, in order that you* shall become [or, prove to be] sons [and daughters] of your Father, the [ONE] in {the} heavens, because He causes His sun to rise on evil [ones] and good [ones], and He sends rain on righteous [ones] and unrighteous [ones]. For, if you* love the ones loving you*, what reward do you* have? Even the tax collectors do the same, do they not?  And if you* greet [fig., are friendly towards] your* friends only, what more do you* do [than others]? Even the tax collectors do so, do they not?  Therefore, _you*_ will be perfect [complete], just as your* Father, the [ONE] in the heavens, is perfect [complete].

Mother Teresa understood the futility of resistance:  “I was once asked why I don’t participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I’ll be there.”  ― Mother Teresa

So if you are AGAINST War you are resisting, giving power to War; but if you are FOR Peace this is the “real” way to renounce[declare that one will no longer engage in or support] War.

So if you are AGAINST [fill in what you are against] you are resisting, giving power to [fill in what you are against]; but if you are FOR [fill in your opposite of what you are against] this is the “real” way to renounce [fill in what you are against].

We don’t just will ourselves to be against, resist, or oppose something. Tell yourself I am AGAINST (not FOR) War and I bet the thought of War will pop into your mind. This gives us an insight into the workings of the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind does not compute terms of negation, opposition, or resistance. It takes the choice I am AGAINST (not FOR) War and reads it as I am FOR War. Think about millions of people misusing their minds collectively!

Once you realize how the mind really works, it is time to change your way of thinking!

We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.  Albert Einstein

A big source of AGAINST consciousness is a Belief System based on FEAR.

The Republicans in Congress were AGAINST Obama for over seven years. How did that work out for them?

I am not AGAINST Trump, but I am FOR a lot of things that go counter to his actions.

“To ask the right question is already half the solution of a problem.” — Carl Jung

The right question is:

What do I really believe?

What do I stand FOR?
